Pick | Baylor at Kansas
No. 17
Kansas would love nothing more than to end second-ranked Baylor’s unbeaten
season. The Jayhawks lost to Texas on Tuesday night and in the process were
swept by the Longhorns for the first time since the Big 12 went to round-robin
play in 2011-12.
The
Jayhawks would like to avenge an earlier season loss to Baylor too. Playing at
home in Allen Fieldhouse may give Kansas a slight advantage. Then again, it
might not.

Bears
Will Be the Favorites
Coming off
that loss to Texas and given Baylor’s 18-game winning streak, there is no
question the Bears will be the favorite on Saturday. In fact, Baylor has been
favored in all 18 of its games this season.
The
question will be the size of the spread. When the two teams played on January
18, Baylor was favored by 8.5. Kansas covered in a 77-69 loss. Expect a similar
spread on Saturday.
The Bears
are 6-3 ATS in their last nine games and that includes three covers of
double-digit spreads. Baylor covered as 12.5-point favorites against TCU, as
11.5-point chalk over Oklahoma State, and as 23.5-point favorites against
Kansas State.

Jayhawks
Running Hot ATS
Kansas,
which had won five straight prior to the loss to Texas, is a surprising 5-0-1
ATS in its last six games. Like Baylor, the Jayhawks also covered three
double-digit spreads - 15, 12, and 12.5.
Led by
Jared Butler (17.1 ppg) and MaCio Teague (14.7 ppg), the Bears scored 86.4
points per game, the second-best total in the nation. In its last five games,
Baylor has put up totals of 77, 83, 84, 107, and 81 points.
Kansas, on
the other hand, has not scored all that often in its last five games. They
scored 72 in the overtime loss to Texas and then put up 67, 59, and 64 after
Kansas had scored 97 against Iowa State.
Our last
pick was for the NFC
Championship game, see how we did.
The
Jayhawks don’t have a roster full of dynamic scorers, but they do have Ochai
Agbaji and David McCormack. The 6-5 Agbaji scores 13.8 points per game while
the 6-10 McCormack adds 13.0 a game.

Baylor can
fill it up and Scott Drew’s team wants to finish the season unbeaten. The Bears
are 13-5 ATS on the season and 5-1 ATS on the road.
Kansas,
which hasn’t been scoring at its average of 73.6 per game recently, is 6-5 ATS
at home and they are just 2-3-1 ATS as an underdog. For the season, Kansas is
just 12-11-1 ATS. That doesn’t give college
basketball bettors much confidence in the Jayhawks.
Saturday’s
spread is likely to be right around the 8.5 that it was back on Jan. 18. This
time though, the Bears win big and cover. Play Baylor all the way up to -8.5
again.
