It
looked like Thursday’s rescheduled match between Manchester City and Liverpool
would have an impact on the 2019-20 Premier League title race, but everything
changed last week when City lost at Chelsea 2-1. That result set off massive
celebrations in the Liverpool city center and at Anfield as the Reds wrapped on
their first-ever Premier League title. Liverpool will take the field as
champions of England for the first time since 1990 and City, the team who won
the last two titles, can do nothing but watch.
The
teams met on November 10 and Liverpool took care of business at Anfield with a
3-1 win and a bunch of Jurgen Klopp fist pumps on the touchline. Fabinho
scored within the first six minutes and Egyptian striker Mo Salah doubled the
advantage seven minutes later. By the time City’s Bernardo Silva scored in
the 78th minute, Liverpool had control of the match as Sadio Mane added a 51st
minute goal.
Manchester City Betting
Preview – Spoil the Party
City
bounced back from the disappointing loss at Chelsea Thursday as the defending
FA Cup champs won 2-0 at Newcastle United Sunday in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
Kevin de Bruyne scored for the second game in a row with a 37th minute penalty
kick. City had nearly 80% of the possession as they outshot the Magpies 20-4
and Raheem Sterling doubled the lead in the 68th minute.
Sergio
Aguero is on top of City’s scoresheet with 23 goals this season, one ahead of
Sterling but Aguero is out with a knee injury. De Bruyne has 17 of his 19
assists in league play while Phil Foden has three goals in his last two starts.
Ederson has made 34 starts in goal with 14 total clean sheets but he won’t have
defender Fernandinho this week as he picked up a red card against Chelsea and
is suspended.
City
was not able to win a third straight title but they do have a lot to play for
as they are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League which resumes in
August. City lifted the EFL Cup back in March and if they get the Court of
Appeals to overturn UEFA’s previous decision, they are also playing for a
top-four finish and Champions League action next year.
Liverpool Betting Preview –
Celebrate in Style
Liverpool
won the title a day after they crushed Crystal Palace 4-0 in their first home
game without fans in attendance. The team celebrated together at a local hotel
while watching the City/Chelsea game and now they will take the pitch as
title-winners for the first time in 30 years. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salah,
Mane and Fabinho all scored in their last win and all indications are that
Klopp will still field a first-rate team in the coming matches.
Liverpool
have England’s best defense with 18 clean sheets and just 21 goals allowed in
31 games, despite keeper Alisson missing time with injury. Salah leads the
offense with 21 goals while Mane has 19 overall goals this season. Virgil
Van Dijk is the rock in the middle of that defense while defender
Alexander-Arnold has a team-best 13 assists.

City
have scored eight goals in their two home games since the restart but those
wins were against Arsenal and Burnley, not Liverpool’s stingy defense. The
Reds have won four times against City since Pep Guardiola took over and don’t
expect them to let up, even after grabbing the trophy.
