Los Angeles Rams at Miami Dolphins Football Betting Preview

The Tua Tagovailoa era begins on Sunday as the Miami Dolphins (3-3) host the Los Angeles Rams (5-2). The Dolphins put their rookie quarterback under center for the first time coming off a bye, while the Rams are riding high after beating Chicago on Monday.

This game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami and will be televised regionally on CBS.

These teams have met just 13 times since 1971, and Miami has dominated the series 11-2. The Rams' only wins came in St. Louis in 2001 and in Miami in 1976. Miami has won four in a row in the series, including a 14-10 road win in 2016, their most recent matchup.

Los Angeles Rams Betting Outlook: Attack & Confuse Tua

In betting with us at Realbookies, you've gone 4-3 ATS with the Rams, while the under is 5-2 in their seven games. The offense ranks 10th in total yards (385.7 yards per game), seventh in rushing (138.9 yards per game), 18th in passing (246.9 yards per game) and 18th in scoring (25.1 points per game).

The defense is second in points allowed (17.7 points per game), sixth in total yards allowed (312.9 yards per game), fifth against the pass (212.4 yards per game) and seventh against the run (100.4 yards per game).

In Monday's win over the Bears, quarterback Jared Goff was 23-for-33 for 219 yards and two touchdowns. On the season, he has completed 68% of his passes for 1,789 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Running back Darrell Henderson ran 15 times for 64 yards against the Bears while running back Malcolm Brown had 57 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Henderson has 412 yards and three touchdowns on the season, while Brown has 274 yards and three touchdowns.

Wide receiver Josh Reynolds led the Rams with 52 receiving yards and a touchdown on Monday, while tight end Gerald Everett also had a touchdown. With tight end Tyler Higbee out injured, Johnny Mundt stepped in for three catches and 47 yards.

Wide receiver Cooper Kupp leads the team with 37 receptions for 417 yards with two touchdowns, while wide receiver Robert Woods has 30 catches for 351 yards and three touchdowns.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey and safety Taylor Rapp both had interceptions against the Bears, while linebacker Leonard Floyd had two of the Rams' four sacks. The Rams have 24 sacks in seven games, led by defensive tackle Aaron Donald with eight.

Miami Dolphins Betting Outlook: New QB, New Attitude

Check free picks at Gameadvisers.com, the Dolphins are 4-2 ATS this season, and the under is 4-2 in their six games. With Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback, the offense ranked 22nd in total yards (354.3 yards per game), 17th in passing (249.2 yards per game), 12th in scoring (26.7 points per game) and 22nd in rushing (105.2 yards per game).

The defense ranks third in the NFL in points allowed (18.8 points per game) but 16th in total yards (260.2 yards per game), 16th against the pass (236 yards per game) and 19th against the run (124.2 yards per game).

Fitzpatrick threw for 1,535 yards in six games with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He gives way to Tagovailoa, who has thrown two passes for nine yards since suffering a season-ending leg injury while playing for Alabama last November.

The Dolphins have allowed 10 sacks in six games this season and will need to protect their first-rounder against the Rams' vaunted pass rush.

Running back Myles Gaskin leads the Dolphins in rushing with 340 yards and one touchdown. Fitzpatrick is second in yards (135) and TD (two), while Jordan Howard has three touchdowns with only 14 yards.

Wide receiver DeVante Parker is likely to be Tagovailoa's top target. On the season, he has 29 catches for 364 yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Preston Williams is averaging 17.8 yards per catch with three scores. Tight end Mike Gesicki has 18 catches for 281 yards and two touchdowns, and Gaskin has 27 catches out of the backfield.

The defense has 17 sacks, five interceptions and four fumble recoveries, which have kept teams out of the end zone despite the yards allowed. Cornerback Xavier Howard has four interceptions, while defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah has five sacks.

Los Angeles Rams at Miami Dolphins Betting Line

Head to our favorite pay per head bookie site at _____, where the Rams are favored by 3.5 points on the road. The total is 44.5 points, and the Dolphins are a +138 home underdog on the moneyline.

Betting Analysis

The under has hit nine times combined for these teams in 2020, as they both have great scoring defenses. Given that the Dolphins are playing a brand new rookie quarterback against Donald, Ramsey and company, don't expect much scoring in this game.

The travel is rough for the Rams as well, going cross country for an early start on a short week.
